The story wiki
A page for every character, place and idea, with your own categories and fields, one click from the chapter.
The story wiki keeps a page for each character, place, group or piece of lore. It sits beside the chapter editor, so you can look things up without leaving your page.
Looking things up while you write
The wiki panel at the side of a chapter lists your entries by category, with a box to filter them by title. Click an entry and it opens in a slide-over beside your chapter, read-only. Your place in the chapter stays exactly where it was. Entries can link to other entries, and a Back button takes you back through them. Close the slide-over and carry on typing.
On a phone, the wiki opens as a drawer from the bottom bar. On a narrow window the panel opens as a drawer too.
Categories
Pages are grouped into categories you choose. Start with the built-in set (Character, Place, Group and Lore), or make your own with New category. Give it a name for one ("Creature") and for several ("Creatures"). Names can be in any script.
Pages
Open a category and choose New (for example "New character"). Give it a title. A page has fields, then a body written in Markdown.
Pages open for reading. Choose Edit to change them. Edits save on their own, like chapters. You can rename, move and delete pages, and each of those can be undone for a few seconds with Undo.
Fields
Each category has its own fields. Open the category's settings to change them. A field can be:
- Text
- Long text
- Choice (pick one)
- Multiple choice
- Number
- Yes / no
- Date
- Link to an entry
- List
You can reorder and rename fields. Removing a field never deletes data: pages keep any value they already had, and it appears among the page's extra fields.
Finding a wiki page
Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) to jump to any page by name, or to search the text of everything. See Search, find and replace, and shortcuts.
Where it is stored
Each category is a folder and each page is a Markdown file with a short header. They are plain files in your storage.
History
On GitHub, every page keeps its earlier versions. See History and restoring.
