Features

Write

A quiet page for the first draft, and tools for every draft after it.

A status on every passage

Mark any stretch of prose Raw, Draft, Cleaned or Published, and it shows as a coloured highlight. A legend counts the words at each stage, and the chapter list shows each chapter’s mix. Most tools label a whole chapter; Rescriptus labels the passage. You can rename the stages for a book. Read more

Alternates

Not sure about a passage? Make an alternate and write another version in its place. Flip between them with the arrows. Until you decide, every version stays in the file, hidden from readers and exports. Keep one, and the others still wait in History. Read more

Focus, dimming and typewriter

Focus hides everything but the page. Dim fades all but the paragraph or sentence you are in, and Typewriter keeps your line in the middle of the screen. Live preview hides the Markdown symbols except where you are typing. Choose the font, size, line width and spacing, or book-style indented paragraphs. Read more

Scenes, footnotes and notes to yourself

A scene break splits a chapter into scenes, each with its own synopsis and point of view on the plan. Footnotes come out as real footnotes in Word, the EPUB and the PDF. A note to yourself sits in the middle of a sentence as a small marker: it is not counted as words and never reaches an export. Footnotes · Notes

A paragraph of a chapter with a small marker reading note in the middle of a sentence.

Spelling, grammar and style

Rescriptus’s own spellchecker knows the names in your story wiki and the words in your dictionary. Grammar checks catch slips such as “a apple” and “would of”. Style checks mark overused and repeated words, long sentences, adverbs and filler, and never call them wrong. All are for English, off until you turn them on, and run on your device. None of it is AI. Read more

A chapter with the style checks on: overused words filled in, a long sentence shaded, and the Style tab beside the page listing them.

Also: Ctrl+K to find any chapter, wiki page or note; find and replace; curly quotes and dashes as you type; light and dark; a reference pane beside the chapter; quick capture to an Inbox note; books that read right to left. Shortcuts
